There’s a misconception that to be a good songwriter, you must be able to weave hidden meanings into the lyrics of a song. Sometimes all a song needs to be good is lyrics that are fun to sing (or scream) along to and good music to accompany it. That’s exactly what you get when you listen to the new Dune Rats record, The Kids Will Know It’s Bullshit.
The new album – which is a number 1 record in their home country of Australia – is stock full of party anthems, catchy melodies, and pot references. If there’s any hidden meaning in the songs, it’s the value of having reliable and fun friends to party with.
The Kids Will Know It’s Bullshit is a collaborative effort between all the band members. There wasn’t any one person writing songs or singing. The Dune Rats worked together to create a fun album based off of real life experiences they’ve gone through. “Scott Green” is about the time they decided to wander around asking people Who Scott Green was, and “Buzzkill” is about one of the band member’s angry neighbors.
Basically, anyone who’s ever partied will be able to relate to these songs. The lyrics are fun to scream along to and easy to learn, and the actual instrumentation is just fun and catchy. And if you just happen to be a self-described stoner like the Dune Rats are? You should definitely check out The Kids Will Know It’s Bullshit.
The Kids Will Know It’s Bullshit is available now via Dine Alone Records.
