Alexandra Releases New Song + Video for “Criminal”

Inspired by fellow musicians from every corner of the genre spectrum, new Australian artist Alexandra is starting to make her debut. With courage and a voice that just won’t quit, she presents her latest single “Criminal;” a catchy song in the same veins as the female pop rock icons that came before her. With vocals that possess both a sweet sound with a devilish edge, she captures your attention there and keeps it there with fun, descriptive lyrics and a bouncy melody.

“Criminal” is very reminiscent of some of the major pop rock songs of the early ‘00s, as is Alexandra’s very presence. Her voice, a mix of sexy and sweet, creates that pop sound while the guitars that flow in and out of the melody create that harsher rock sound. Artists like Avril Lavigne and Kelly Clarkson had that same energy and sound to their early songs, and it’s that blend of pop and rock that makes Alexandra appeal to people of all music tastes.

The lyrics themselves are fun and descriptive. You know exactly what Alexandra’s talking about, it’s got your attention. But it’s not that she’s telling an actual story. The lyrics to “Criminal,” while they’re talking about an actual criminal, are vague enough to be interpreted and related in different ways. Some might relate the song to an ex, some might paint a Bonnie and Clyde story in their minds. Others might not care about what the lyrics are saying and just jam along to the song regardless.

There’s no song that’s absolutely perfect and flawless, and “Criminal” isn’t any different in that aspect. Depending on your preferences, the loops might get annoying three-fourths of the way through the song, and there could be a little bit more variation in the melodies. Those are very small, miniscule things that don’t prevent the average listener from digging this song though. And you can’t deny that Alexandra has potential to be huge.

In addition, Alexandra premiered a music video to go along with the song. Watch it below and let us know what you think about it.
