I listened to a lot of country when I was little. I still listen to a fair amount of it now, and experience a fair amount of joy whenever a new song comes out, or whenever a country artist gets a little bit widespread. I suppose that has something to do with the way a lot of people just judge country as being uncool to seem a little more hip or a little edgier even if it is an unconscious decision, but I digress. This comes to mind because Carrie Underwood is a pretty well known singer on country radio, and her new song “Smoke Break” dropped recently.
“Smoke Break” starts off with a melodic and slightly twangy sound, and flows easily into Underwood’s vocals. It’s rather quick paced, but not overwhelmingly so. The song paints a wonderful picture of how overwhelming life can be sometimes, and paints a more positive light on things that are generally considered in a more negative light. It’s an intriguing song, and a delight to listen to. Carrie Underwood continues to display her talent for weaving a story into her songs with this track. Her new album, Storyteller, is currently set to be released on October 23.
