“I Can Change” by Brandon Flowers: Single Review

As the release date for Brandon Flowers new solo album draws ever nearer I have to restrain myself from constantly going on about the various singles that get released. There’s a ton of good music looming just along the horizon so it’s gonna be a bit tricky to cover it all, but let’s not get hung up on the future. Let’s get into the recently released song, “I Can Change”.

The song starts out with a piano melody that seems sad and slow. The vocals enter easily, stark against the quieter background. The song is evocative to say the least, and is embedded with a sort of lovelorn sadness and desperation. It can come across as a sort of slightly obsessive love in my opinion, however I can also see the point where it can be a love that inspires the person to be better. It brings up a lot of interesting thoughts with it’s steady and quick pacing, and it doesn’t lack in energy despite the overall feel of the song.

All in all, it’s another interesting song from Brendon Flowers. I’m still vibrating with excitement over the rapidly approaching album release, but this song did nothing to really encourage or discourage that. even though it’s completely worth the listen, it really falls in the middle of like and dislike for me. Brandon Flowers second solo album, The Desired Effect, is set to be released on May 18.
