The Driver by Bastille Review

Just a quick review today since life has been pretty busy. Went with a single over an album because we’ve had a lot of long posts lately and it’s nice to mix it up with some quicker reads every so often. Today’s focus is on a new Bastille track I came across while flicking through spotify for something to write about. Bastille has a few good songs from what I’ve heard, but I’ve never listened extensively so this is sort of a half blind review, but let’s get down to it anyway!

The Driver starts off quietly with a slow growth into a guitar driven melody before the vocals began. All in all it was very simplistic in style, before it exploded with electronic effects and grew in volume considerably. It was sort of cacophonous but it was a terrible style for the song. It returned to the simple and quiet style for a little bit, and it soon became clear that the loud and busy style was going to be an intrinsic part of the chorus for the song. Overall, it was a very slow song that was very pretty, but far from the Bastille songs that I’ve actually liked. I didn’t care for it all that much, but it was a very creative and interesting song that’s certainly worth the time it takes to listen to it.
