Immortals – Fall Out Boy, Single Review

I couldn’t tell you honestly where I stand with this song. No, I have no bias against it because of its affiliation with Disney. In fact it does its job of making me excited to try and go see the movie. It’s a very curious song. Patrick Stump’s voice over the suspiciously low-key and digitized melody puts primary focus on the lyrics and the vocals. But it’s almost monotone at how the vocals and the melody can blend in together sometimes – sometimes naturally, sometimes with effects that make it sound as digitized as the melody.

However, the lyrics are always what drags me into the song, and I still haven’t found out what this song could possibly mean. I suppose for a Disney associated song, it doesn’t really matter. And the melody and backing beats to it are still enough to keep my attention and not put me to sleep. But after one or two plays, I start to get bored. But some songs are like that.

Anyway, this is a fantastic song from a fantastic band. It just doesn’t happen to be one of my favorites.

  1. I see it more as a mediocre song from an awesome band. I’m ALL about Fall Out Boy, but this song really isn’t up to their standards. I’m not trying to say it doesn’t “sound like them”, because who knows what their sound is, they’re evolving (which is fine!). It just really isn’t up to their standards. It’s lyrics are maybe as good as some of their more mediocre songs, and the rest of it kinda sucks a bit. Even Patrick’s voice can’t save how busy and gimmicky it is, and the rest of the band get minimized. However, it’s a track to a kid’s movie, and maybe they didn’t have a lot of wiggle room, I accept that. I’ll just be excited for the next song!
